Great Classical Music For Young Children
If you’re looking for some great pieces of classical music for young children to listen to, I’ve made a list of some lovely pieces that are filled with imagery and stories. It’s great to get kids to draw or paint while listening to these pieces and try and interpret the story they’re hearing from the music. I’ve chosen mainly orchestral pieces because there’s a lot of excitement in hearing different kinds instruments and it also begins to expand their listening capabilities in hearing many melodies and rhythms at once.
Peter and the Wolf – Serge Prokofiev
The Planets – Gustav Holst
“Morning Mood” , “Hall of the Mountain King” from Peer Gynt – Edvard Grieg
Mother Goose Suite – Maurice Ravel
The Magic Flute – W.A. Mozart
Prelude to an Afternoon of a Faun – Claude Debussy
I’ll be adding to this list as more pieces come to mind. Some of them are quite long but any of the movements are great to listen to on their own.
