Benefits of Learning Music

Research on children’s brain development in relation to learning music has been expanding. Scientists have been able to prove some intriguing questions about music’s impact on child development. Results have shown that consistent musical education can strengthen language skills, problem solving, memory, and sound recognition.

“Recent studies have clearly indicated that musical training physically develops the part of the left side of the brain known to be involved with processing language, and can actually wire the brain’s circuits in specific ways. Linking familiar songs to new information can also help imprint information on young minds.” – The Children’s Music Workshop

“Language competence is at the root of social competence. Musical experience strengthens the capacity to be verbally competent.”- Dr. Kyle Pruett, clinical professor of child psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine

In addition to the scientific reason for learning music,it also teaches children discipline, focus, creativity, and self expression.Through regular lessons, children develop the patience and discipline needed in acquiring any new skills by practicing and overcoming obstacles. Music education extends beyond the benefits it has on brain development. It enhances children’s musicality and appreciation for the art and most importantly music brings out their curiosity and creativity in learning to express themselves.
